Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Rema is set to make history once again after being officially announced as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.According to FIFA, the “Calm Down” hitmaker will perform at the Los Angeles opening ceremony alongside a star-studded lineup that includes Katy Perry, Future, Tyla, Anitta and Lisa.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will feature a historic format with three separate opening ceremonies across the host nations for the first time in tournament history.
FIFA confirmed that the United States ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on June 12, 2026, ahead of the opening match involving the U.S. national team. The event is expected to combine football, entertainment, music, immersive visuals, and large-scale stage production.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the lineup as a reflection of cultural diversity and the unifying power of music.
“The lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States,” Infantino said.
The announcement marks another major international milestone for Rema, whose global success has continued to push Afrobeats to new heights. The singer previously performed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris and has become one of Africa’s most streamed artists worldwide.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be the biggest in football history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across 16 cities in North America. The tournament will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
